Join us!

Students and trainees

We are looking for undergraduate, graduate, and post-doctoral trainees to join us in the work we’re doing! We’re especially interested in welcoming individuals with lived experiences of incarceration and the criminal legal system.

Undergraduate students

We welcome applications for undergraduate research assistant positions from students with interests in the criminal legal system, mindfulness and other well-being practices, and trauma-informed approaches. Previous research experience is not required! We welcome applicants who are studying psychology, social work, legal studies, public policy, computer, data, and information sciences, and related areas.

Graduate students

We will be reviewing applications for a Psychology Ph.D. student for the 2027-2028 academic year. Students can apply through the Clinical Psychology program or the Individualized Graduate Major; for more information, see the Psychology Department website. If you’re planning to apply to a different department, reach out to Dan to talk about what this would look like.

Post-doctoral trainees

Dan is an affiliate of the Training Program in Emotion Research, which provides funding for two post-doctoral trainees each year. Individuals with interests in community-engaged scholarship, qualitative and mixed methods research, trauma-informed mindfulness interventions, incarceration and reentry, and systems transformation are encouraged to reach out to learn more about this opportunity.

Community collaborators

The foundation of all our work is close collaborative relationships with community partners in Dane County, in Wisconsin, and beyond. We are always interested in developing new partnerships with individuals and groups who are invested in research-driven solutions to bring about individual healing and systemic transformation in the criminal legal system. To join our growing network of partners in this work, email us!
